Goodbye Chicken Pie!

Well this is it. We are just about to set off for the airport (our flight is at 2.10pm). We have had a really nice (and sad) few days saying goodbye to family and friends. We had a lovely day in Leeds on Friday with Mary and her new baby son, Cole. Then we spent the weekend with Em’s sisters in the Midlands. Simon cooked us a personalised chicken pie to say farewell on Saturday evening (see photo below) and we spent Sunday with the church in Leamington on their church camp – they prayed for us, in what was was a very special and significant time. The past couple of days we have spent sorting out the last few jobs and spending time with Becci and Simon and Gary and Anna (we also had a lovely meal with Em’s uncle and aunt, Peter and Elaine (who also cooked us a lovely chicken pie), and their daughter Miriam on Monday evening). We have had a lot of fun. Simon, Gary and I had a final game of golf yesterday (pitch and putt) and I came second which is a big improvement on my normal ranking. But finally today has arrived. We are a mixture of sad, nervous and excited. Right now we are just keen to get out there so that we can start finding our feet (and a home). We will keep you posted as we begin our American adventure!

Wow! We have left London, sold our house and have no jobs and we’re going to America! Last Friday we moved out of our house in Streatham with the heroic help of our friends Tim and Jacqui Frisby, Andy and Joy Tilsley and Victor from London. There were a few hairy moments when we thought we would not make it, like when our removal van didn’t turn up and when we locked ourselves out of the house.  But, praise God, we got there in the end. The day ended at around 11.30pm when Gary and I returned from dropping some stuff off at Becci and Simon’s. Gary and Anna have kindly agreed to house most of our stuff in their loft while we are away and they have been absolute stars… although when Gary saw how much stuff we had he was (and still is) a bit concerned about the ceiling collapsing. We are now enjoying a few days rest in Leeds and Northumberland before returning to the Midlands for our final weekend. Then a week today we are off. Our flight is at around 2.30pm (UK time) and we arrive in Redding at about 8pm (California time). We have arranged to stay with a family in the church for the first few nights as we have not yet found a place to rent – we plan to find somewhere on arrival. We are excited and a bit nervous – there is still a lot to sort out and in many ways we are stepping into the unknown. But we know that this is what God wants for us and we are sure that this will be a very significant time. We can’t wait to encouter God in new ways and to learn how to give Him away to people.
